Toolkit 2: Drawing: Session 2

This week's life drawing lesson started out with quick two minute poses.

We then moved onto a slightly longer timed drawing, where we would start to consider tone on the model's body and where the light fell. For the second of these, we had to switch up the tools that we were using to draw, so I used charcoal instead of pencil.

We moved on by looking at the parts of the body that were 'landmarks' as Simon called them; where bone protruded more noticeably from the skin, such as the shoulders, collarbones, elbows, and so on.

We then moved on by doing longer poses to finish off. I used coloured pencil for these, and I wanted to get down the shading as quickly as possible. I took Simon's advice of cross-hatching in a way that matched the 'movement' and flow of the skin/muscles which seemed to help decrease the flatness of the image and give the shapes more dimension.
